Plan your trip

Every trip we run is put together around the people coming. Tell us roughly when, how many of you there are, and what you want out of the water — we'll come back with dates, rates, and an honest view of how the rivers are likely to fish that week. We would rather talk you out of a bad date than sell you one.

Practical questions

When is the season?
April to mid-October. Spring and autumn are usually the most productive, though summer is very good for anyone who wants to fish the surface. Dry fly works throughout.
What level do I need to be?
All levels. A decent cast and a careful presentation will make the week better, but our guides teach every day and we regularly take people who have never held a fly rod.
Do I need a fishing licence?
Yes — fishing in Castilla y León requires a regional licence, and some beats require a separate permit. We handle the paperwork for guided guests; just ask when you book.
What tackle should I bring?
For dry fly, a 9 ft rod with a #3 or #4 line. For nymphing, 10 to 11 ft with a #3 or #4. Bring mayfly and caddis patterns in sizes 12 to 22 plus assorted nymphs — or fish ours.
How do I get there?
Most guests fly into Madrid, Bilbao or Asturias and drive; León also has a small airport. The lodge is in Matallana de Torío, twenty-five kilometres from the city of León. Tell us your route and we'll advise.
Can non-anglers come?
Yes, and a good number do. There is a whole page on what they can do while you're on the river — walking, biking, caves, the city, and the food.
Do you keep fish?
No. Everything is catch and release, barbless, with short fights and quick releases. These are wild fish with no stocked replacements.
What languages do you speak?
Spanish, English and Italian across the team.
